Judge's emotion during Palbasha's elimination

08/03/2008: We saw intense emotion swinging in the judge's desks when Palbasha was eliminated due to poor SMS/vote support. What is appropriate from the judges? Palbasha had the second highest judge's score (42.50) in the Adhunik Bangla Track Round, yet in the SMS/vote ranking she came in one spot above the last. The disparity in the judging between the judges and the viewers seemed to sadden Fahmida. Fahmida was crying. Also Bulbul could not hide his disappointment even behind his diplomatic words. Partha was upset and commented that viewers did not understand or appreciate her unconventional style of singing. So much support from the judges for Palbasha and so much emotions flowing in the stage, how did the viewers take this? Yes, this is a show and viewers like the fights between Fahmida and Bulbul; and being able to overturn the judge's votes seemed interesting. But this time the judges did not seem to agree with the viewers and they expressed that. Pal took it in a mature manner and left the stage with sadness but hope that she'll continue in her road. I hope that Shriti who had more SMSs votes and overtook Palbasha will not feel left out from celebrating her success. It was quite a scene!
Shefaly's Elimination

7/27/2008: She seemed a star. Lovely voice, sweet face, excellent performance in all the closeup1 rounds. Dancing and singing simultaneously. Yes, we are speaking about Shefaly. In the Close up 1 Track Round Part 1 for the Polly-ghiti category, Shefaly was eliminated because of the lack of votes or SMSs from viewers. Yet if you read online forums and youtube comments, you seem to get a different message that people actually liked her and felt that her elimination was not justified. Also, one of the hosts, Putul commented when Shefaly was eliminated, "tomake amra miss onek korbo". Also one of the judges, Partha, commented on the second day of the Track Round "dhorshokra keno one SMS deyni bujhte parchina". So, what went wrong? First, Shefaly herself said that her hometown of Ranghamati has no network connection, thus people can neither send SMSs nor vote online unlike for Asha who is from Dhaka her direct contestant for this round. Asha, Shefaly, Shaju, and Purna all had all votes close to each other (within 2-3 votes from each other) from the judges. Shefaly, despite being second in rank from judge's vote, lost position and became 5th once the SMS/online votes were added to the total. Without votes from relatives and neighbors, it becomes difficult to move up. Second, Isn't the purpose of this round to reach out to the viewers? Sure. But viewers are permitted online 10 votes per household or per phone and there were many good contestants to select from who were excellent performers and singers in this category. It appeared that the Pollyghiti category was packed with viewers favorite singers this year. It's unfortunate that we lost her so early.
